Fall Styling Trends
Fall Styling Trends My 12 Rules for Fall Dressing in Vancouver: Styling Trends and Tips for Fall 2026 Fall dressing is my favourite sport. I'm a mom of two and a fashion buyer living in Vancouver, where the lifestyle is laid-back and everyone dresses casually. Some days it feels like I'm fighting for my life just to wear an actual outfit. If you're looking for fall outfit inspiration, here are my rules. 1. Don't save the good clothes. Wear the coat, the boots and the bag, even on a random Tuesday. That's what they're for. 2. A good coat investment will take you everywhere. A belted camel or navy wool coat goes over jeans, over tailoring and over a dress. In Vancouver it's the piece you'll wear most from October to March, so make it a great one. 3. Tailoring is very important. I take my tailoring seriously. A sharp blazer and a well-cut skirt or trouser make even a simple outfit look intentional. 4. Invest in tailored separates. A skirt suit or trouser suit gives you more than one look. Wear the pieces together, then split them up: the blazer with cream trousers, the skirt with a knit. The flexibility is great. 5. A matching set is the easiest way to look well dressed. It takes the planning out of getting ready. A checked shirt-jacket and skirt with grey tights and pointed flats is a full outfit in one step. 6. Mix your textures and keep your tones consistent. Shearling with a printed skirt, or a soft knit with leather, all in browns, creams or greys. Consistent tone creates harmony, and mixed texture adds dimension. 7. Croc-embossed leather is huge this fall. Skip the black boots and go for brown. Tall brown croc boots with a camel skirt suit and a turtleneck is my favourite look of the season. 8. Leopard is a neutral, and so are zebra and python. Treat animal print like denim: a leopard coat over a white tee and jeans works every day. 9. Consider a fun statement jacket for a crisp day. A leather jacket with jeans and a good bag is the easiest way to feel cool when the leaves turn. 10. Dress up a knit. A knit can feel casual, so add a white collar under it and a structured blazer over it to bring structure back into your look. 11. Layer your going-out look. Instead of just a dress, try a tailored blazer worn as a top with a satin skirt. It's dressier, warmer and more interesting. 12. Vintage can be your friend. A vintage coat or bag mixed with new pieces makes an outfit feel personal. I still wear a Max Mara coat from the '80s that I inherited from my grandmother. Want help building your own fall wardrobe? When someone tells me they're looking for a stylist, they usually want one of three things: a wardrobe that works for their real life, help dressing for a big moment, or someone who will be honest about fit. Vancouver has several kinds of styling help. Independent stylists are best for a full wardrobe overhaul and usually charge by the hour or package. Department-store personal shoppers offer lots of brands in one building. Online styling services are convenient, but no one sees you in the clothes. My styling offers a unique combination: I style across four brands, giving you a range of options, and I can assist with your everyday wardrobe, to styling for special events, to picking long-term investment pieces like coats.

How do I find a personal stylist in Vancouver?
Decide what you need first: a full wardrobe overhaul, help with key pieces, or a single occasion. Independent stylists suit overhauls. For free styling across four Italian brands, Harriet Guadagnuolo at Vestis Fashion Group (Max Mara, Weekend Max Mara, Marella and MAX&Co.) can be contacted by text or email through her Six.
What does a personal stylist do?
A personal stylist helps you choose clothes that suit your body, lifestyle and budget. That can include a closet review, pulling pieces for you to try, building outfits, and advising on fit and alterations.
What's the difference between a personal stylist and a personal shopper?
A personal stylist looks at your whole wardrobe and lifestyle and may work across any brand. A personal shopper usually works for a store and helps you shop that store's stock. Some, like Harriet at Vestis, combine both by styling across several brands under one retailer.
Should I use an independent stylist, a department store or a brand boutique?
Use an independent stylist for a full wardrobe rethink, a department store if you want many brands in one place, and a brand boutique stylist if you want deep fit and fabric knowledge, alterations and someone who remembers your sizes from season to season.
How much does a personal stylist cost in Vancouver?
Independent stylists usually charge by the hour or by package, and prices vary with experience. Some retailers offer styling for free: Harriet's styling at Vestis Fashion Group is free of charge, with no requirement to purchase.
Is there free personal styling in Vancouver?
Yes. Harriet Guadagnuolo, VP of Retail at Vestis Fashion Group and a personal stylist for ten years, offers free styling across Max Mara, Weekend Max Mara, Marella and MAX&Co., with no requirement to buy.
Do I have to buy anything at a free styling appointment?
Not with Harriet at Vestis. Styling is free and there's no requirement to purchase. The goal is to help you look and feel your best.
Can a stylist work with different budgets?
A good one will. Styling across four brands lets Harriet mix MAX&Co. and Weekend Max Mara pieces with a Max Mara investment coat, so the wardrobe fits your budget.
What are the fall 2026 styling trends?
For Vancouver, the trends Harriet is styling most are a sharp tailored jacket, textured statement knits, tailoring built to last, camel and quiet neutrals with one colour, and a water-repellent trench for rainy days.
How do I book a styling session with Harriet?
Tap Harriet's profile photo at the top of her Six to get her text and email, then tell her what you're dressing for. She'll pull a selection from across the Vestis boutiques before you arrive.
What should I bring to a styling appointment?
Bring or wear the shoes and undergarments you'd wear with the clothes, photos of a few favourite and never-worn pieces from your closet, a list of upcoming occasions, and a rough budget.
